Hi this is Carolyn,
The Bible tells us that we should be baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire. (Matthew 3: 11)
What does it mean to us if we become Baptized with the Holy Spirit?
Mark 1:8 Amplified Bible (AMP)
8 I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
When you receive the ‘Baptism (baptizo) of the Holy Spirit’, it is not temporary. He affects a permanent change.
Mark 16:16 Amplified Bible (AMP)
16 He who believes [who adheres to and trusts in and relies on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth] and is baptized will be saved [from the penalty of eternal death]; but he who does not believe [who does not adhere to and trust in and rely on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth] will be condemned.
It is more than an intellectual or emotional assent. We actually become one with the Holy Spirit when we experience the “Baptism with the Holy Spirit”.
Let’s look in the New Testament at what happened after they experienced this Baptism.
1) The people KNEW when God was speaking. They recognized their Shepherd’s voice. (John 10: 27);
2) The people knew WHAT God was saying. (1 Corinthians 2:10-11) They could interpret what God meant when speaking.
3) They were ENABLED TO OBEY all that God said to them. (Did you think you had to do it on your on? NO WAY, cause we can’t!)
Galatians 5:16-18
Amplified Bible
16 But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the [a]sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts]. 17 For the sinful nature has its desire which is opposed to the Spirit, and the [desire of the] Spirit opposes the [b]sinful nature; for these [two, the sinful nature and the Spirit] are in direct opposition to each other [continually in conflict], so that you [as believers] do not [always] do whatever [good things] you want to do. 18 But if you are guided and led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the Law.
The promise of the Holy Spirit is a promise of God to every believer. It is through this union with the Holy Spirit that we receive “wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge and fear of the Lord”.
Without this union we can not serve God correctly nor fully; we fail to know the meaning of what God is telling us to do.
Be sure that you are baptized with the Holy Spirit from God; that you may grow more spiritually each and every day changing into the image of Jesus Christ.
May each one of you that reads this blog receive the fulness of the Baptism of Jesus Christ.
